5th Golden Rule for a Flat Belly: Belch it out

Stomach bloating is an often overlooked cause of an enlarged waistline. The etiology and treatments of bloating are just as unique as you are. If you’re in midlife and you find yourself battling the bulge like never before, you certainly don’t need extra problems.

Most common causes of stomach bloating

If you’re nervous and you have a habit of swallowing air, you will experience bloating. The initial treatment for this symptom is to recognize it for what it is, relax and stop swallowing air. The next step is to try to get rid of the air with-you guessed it-belching it out to relieve the gas and relieve the bloating.

If this doesn’t work, you can also try drinking carbonated water, or special teas such as chamomile, fennel, ginger and peppermint.

Premenstrual bloating

If you are experiencing premenstrual bloating, the last thing you will feel like doing is exercising. But, this is exactly what you should be doing. I’m not saying you need to do 100 reverse abdominal crunches; a simple walk for 30 minutes should help.

Another tried and true method is to reduce your salt intake and increase your water consumption. If your body is sufficiently hydrated, it won’t hold onto the body water that causes bloating.

Constipation

The other very common cause of bloating is constipation. Eat plenty of fruits to loosen the stool. Exercising also helps to get the bowels to move, and drinking lots of water, and eating lots of fiber.

lactose intolerance

A lot of people think that if they’re lactose intolerant they will always experience bloating after eating or drinking dairy. This isn’t true. It is possible to be only mildly lactose intolerant and you find that the feelings come and go. Anyways, if you are lactose intolerant, you should decrease (most specialists don’t recommend completely eliminating dairy) your dairy intake or take the necessary supplements.

More serious causes

Other more serious causes of bloating may include: tumors, ovarian cysts, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, and any condition causing bowel obstruction. If you suspect you have any of these, you will need to consult your physician.

Conclusion

Wouldn’t you just love to lose part of your stomach bulge simply by belching it out? If someone asks you what you’re doing, tell them to go to www.nursingmenopause.com (wink-wink) for the answer.
