Night Sweats: In menopause and feeling too hot.
In menopause and feeling too hot. Night sweats are hot flashes that happen at night. They can be mild to extreme in intensity. Some women who have them may also experience heart palpitations and extreme perspiration, forcing them to get up and change their pillow cases, bedding and nightgown. According to Dr. Laura Corio M.D., there is a direct relationship between hormonal changes and sleep disturbances. When women are given the appropriate hormones, their insomnia and hot nights improve. However, if the symptoms you are experiencing are tolerable, then it may be better to look at alternative ways to deal with them. How to deal with the hots: • All the natural and healthy techniques I wrote about on this site such as exercise, diet, vitamins, phytoestrogens, herbs, deep breathing, laughter and relaxation will improve your hot flashes whether they occur during the day or the night. • Keep the temperature in your bedroom cool • If you are experiencing a hot flash during the night, practice deep breathing • Keep a cold pack handy on your night stand and use whenever necessary
• Wear Cool Jam Pyjamas to wick away your sweat Use Cool Jam Pillow Cases to keep your head and face cool • Use a battery-operated fan (make sure it’s a quiet one) There are a number of reasons for sleep disturbances in midlife, and they aren’t all related to night sweats, but perimenopause is often still at fault. Some of us have just survived our sleep-deprived childrearing years only to be confronted with midlife insomnia. Oh…don’t you wish we could all sleep like teenagers again? In other sections of this website I have written about insomnia, restless leg syndrome, frequent urination, and side-effects of certain medications.
