Menopause Symptoms and Its Treatments
What I Know for Sure about Menopause Symptoms and its Treatments
Recently I led a seminar on menopause symptoms and its treatments to a group of eight women of perimenopausal age. I have to admit I was quite nervous in preparing for the seminar because I there's so much controversial information out there and I was certain someone would quote this or that research and blow whatever hypothesis I was making out of the water.
And yes, for every research paper -funded by this or that group-out there saying for example, that evening primrose oil, or black cohosh is the best thing for perimenopausal symptoms, there will be another that says there is absolutely NO proof it works.
In addition, you will have ladies with personal reports who swear red clover, for example, or vitamin E!
So, my answer can only be yes, some of these methods work for some women and some don’t. There is no cure-all for everyone.
Also, there is a “placebo factor” which means that every single method -from sugar pills to voodoo science-is 30% effective simply because the person believes it will be effective. This is due to the power of the brain.
But the question these women posed to me was, "What do you know for sure about menopause symptoms and its treatments?
There are some methods that are absolutely certain to at least reduce your symptoms, but they are harder to achieve than simply taking an herb or a pill. They require lifestyle changes.
But, the good news is that they are free and they not only will reduce your perimenopausal symptoms, they will also help you to look great, increase your chances to live longer, clear your skin, improve your mood, lower your blood pressure, improve your waist-line, and give you more energy to name a few.
• Exercise. It doesn’t really matter what you do, just start by doing more than you are right now. Consistency is the key.
• Eat right. A simple rule- to reduce the confusion intentionally inflicted on you by marketers- is to eat food in their whole forms and as close to their natural state as possible. If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.
• Fit relaxation time into each and every day.
• Love yourself. Love others. Be Happy.
• Laugh at menopause jokes as often as you can (unless it gets you into trouble and people start to think you need help).
• Drink water.
• Remove as many toxins (people, food, and products) as possible from your life.
• **Warning: Get any serious medical condition looked into by a health professional because your symptoms may not be related to perimenopause, and/or your perimenopause symptoms may be serious enough that you do indeed NEED medical intervention.
Besides all that, the perimenopausal woman should also focus on symptomatic relief of whatever it is that is bothering her. For example, hair removal methods for unwanted hair, migraine relief with painkillers, symptomatic relief of tender breasts etc.
