What are Kegel Exercises?
Kegel Exercises were developed by Dr. Arnold Kegel in the 1950's. This special exercise benefits women in two ways:
1) They improve bladder control 2) They tighten and tone the vaginal area which leads to greater sexual pleasure.
They are important for the menopausal woman because she may suffer from urinary incontinence and sexual issues. Use it or lose it! It is important to keep all of your muscles toned as you age, or at anytime really. They are easy to do and they can be done anywhere at anytime. You don't need a gym, special clothing or a shower afterwards. They are great to do when you are bored, irritated, waiting in line or at stoplights. The Perfect time to do it The perfect time to perform this exercise is when a really annoying person is talking to you or trying to force their opinion on you. Smile and perform this little exercise. In this way you will be distracted from what the person is saying and you will get your exercise time in-double duty Kegel is what I like to call it. Method:
Contract your vaginal muscles as if you are trying to hold in your pee. Hold for a count of five, relax, and then hold again for a count of five. The second method is to contract and release in rapid succession. Do this for as long as the annoying person is talking to you. Vaginal Weights You might want to add vaginal weights to your Kegel Exercises for even greater improvement in your sexual health (and improvement in your ability to hold your urine when laughing and jumping-but that’s another article.) They come in different sizes and shapes. These include: • Barbells • Weights • Cones
Sounds a little odd, n’est pas? They are available at medical supply stores or catalogs specializing in self-care products. How they work They are inserted into the vagina just before you start your kegel exercises. These devices force you to contract your vaginal muscles tightly around the inserted object. They may help you focus more effectively on the targeted muscle. The goal is to improve the strength and tone of your vagina. I can hear some of you-the same people who say we survived our childhoods without seatbelts, what's all the fuss?-saying,"I'm sure our mothers and grandmothers got away without these ridiculous devices." My response is, "Yes, but we're not having our mother's and grandmother's menopause, are we?" If you do choose to purchase these specialized weights, I suggest you do not perform these exercises at your local gym.
