How to meditate: Meditation can Help Balance Your Hormones
When I was younger and I went to a Yoga class where I was “forced” to meditate, I thought “What a waste of time.” I was so busy and I didn’t feel like lying down in the middle of the day to think about my toes. I had work to do, errands to run, groceries to buy, dinners to plan etc.
Now I realize that meditation is probably the cheapest and easiest form of therapy with absolutely no side effects. It takes some discipline to learn the technique but it really works. Any activity that relaxes us will improve our weight loss (by decreasing our cortisol levels and decreasing our appetite for sugary foods), lessen water retention and naturally balance our hormones!
Deepak Chopra in Ageless Body, Timeless Minds states, “It has been established that long-term meditators can have a biological age between 5 and 12 years younger than their chronological age.”
You don’t have to go to a special class to meditate, although if you want to, then go for it.
How to Meditate
• Sit or lie in a comfortable place. • Close your eyes and focus on your breath. When other thoughts come into your brain, let them float away. Some people like to focus on a single word and repeat that word. • After you’ve taken several breaths, inhaling slowly through your nose and exhaling through your nose (or mouth, it really doesn’t matter how you exhale) allow your mind to travel over your body and feel any tension. Concentrate on relaxing your muscles in that area, and continue to deep breathe and exhale. • Allow your thoughts to float away.
