2nd Golden Rule for How to Have a Flat Belly: Substitute bad food with good food whenever you can.

2nd Golden Rule for How to Have a Flat Belly

It’s the little daily changes that make the real difference, isn’t that true? It’s the slightly altered things we do in our relationships, our work, our fitness routine, and our diets that make huge changes in the long run. And I mean HUGE!Start with exchanging those nasty, unhealthy calories for healthy ones.

#1 Don’t eat store-bought salad dressings unless you’ve carefully inspected the ingredients. They are usually loaded with fat and calories and other nonsense. And don’t be fooled by the nonfat salad dressings. They are often packed with sugar to make them taste as good or better than the regular kind, and therefore they are not only unhealthy but also loaded with calories.

Exchange these salad dressings with ones that are made from ingredients like olive oil, walnut oil, delightful vinegars and herbs. If you make your own, you can control what goes into them, and as an added bonus, they taste great!

#2 Don’t drink soda pop. Soda pop is known to increase your belly fat (and put you at a higher risk of heart disease and diabetes). Soda pop is not only loaded with empty calories, it also increases your appetite! No wonder fast food chains love to add soda pop to their meal deals.

Don’t be fooled by diet soda, as if that is any better. Yes, you won’t get the calories from the sugar, but your body will still think you’re eating sugar and shoot up your insulin anyways. This can’t be good. Also, diet soda will increase your appetite.

#3 Don’t eat low fat muffins, cakes and cookies. Many people think they can indulge in these treats because they are fat free and therefore healthy. Most of these snacks are made with extra sugar to make them taste good, and therefore they often have more calories than regular snacks.

Instead, make your own muffins, cakes and cookies and control what goes into them. Or, if you’re pressed for time, go for the real thing and then eat only half of it.

#4 Don’t eat mayonnaise. There’s probably no food that absolutely needs mayonnaise. Wonderful substitutions are yoghurt, tahini or mustard.

#5 Reduce your sugar intake. If you take sugar in your coffee or tea, reduce it slowly, perhaps ½ teaspoon for a few weeks at a time. You will slowly get used to the reduction in sweetness, and eventually you won’t even want it anymore! Also, a surprising tip in how to have a flat belly is to eliminate artificial sugars from your diet. There is a lot of research on the dangers of artificial sugars that you probably don't know about. Look it up!

#6 Reduce your cream in your coffee or tea. If you drink cream, then do the same thing you did with the sugar. Go slowly and reduce the fat content. If you are used to 18% cream, go down to 10% for a while, then 5% then 2%.

#7 Cut out one nasty treat that you normally eat each day. To do this, you may want to write down what you normally eat (be honest) and then put a line through one thing you think you can do without. After a few weeks, take out one more thing. It works, try it!

#8 If you love mushrooms of any kind (especially Portobello) exchange these for meats. If prepared properly, these mushrooms can taste even better than meat!

#9 If you love mashed potatoes, use only half what you’d normally use, and then add mashed cauliflower. Exchange the cream you would normally use for healthful chicken or beef stock.

#10 Exchange any creamy ingredients in your recipes with healthful chicken or beef stock. Just be sure to buy the kind without msg or preservatives.
