Hot Flashes Menopause
I am nominating myself as the absolute champion of hot flashes menopause which occur about every 45 minutes 24/7 and have been happening for nearly 10 years. I am 56 yrs. old now. I am sick and tired of this, the lack of sleep it causes and being soaked and sticky constantly, embarrassed in public when people ask if I'm ok because of t he rivers of sweat running down my face etc. I am becoming a hermit. I am in a docotr supervised weight management program for moinths now and eat an excellent diet. It hasn't helped. I have lost nearly 30 pounds as well, no change there either.Nearly every one of my female relatives has/had breast cancer for 3 generations so I won't take HRT. I am at my wits' end aand don't feel much like socailizing anymore. I have been consuming a lot of soy products for years too, no help. B.Ellis, Canada Response from Glenda: First of all, I want to say that my heart goes out to you-to all of you who are experiencing hot flashes menopause. What you are describing is horrible and nearly impossible to deal with. I understand that you are at your wits’ end and don’t feel like socializing anymore. I’m very pleased that you haven’t resorted to hormone replacement therapy, because with your medical history you’d be adding fuel to the fire for your breast cancer risk. The next thought I have is, “What can I advise her? She’s been dealing with this for 10 years, and I am sure she has sought out all kinds of medical and non-medical advice and it’s still not working.” It’s great that you’re on a healthy diet, you are consuming soy products and that you are losing weight. I have written up some articles on meditation, fitness, the benefits of laughter, spoiling yourself whenever you can, and other remedies such as natural ways to stay cool that I’m sure you’re already doing. In addition to all of these lifestyle changes, have you tried 100% natural products such as Amberen? Conclusion My prescription? In addition to the positive changes you have already made, add more joy, more laughter, more spoiling of yourself, more meditation (especially when you start to feel a hot flash coming on), more gentle exercising, more joy-I know I already said that. And pop some herbs.
