Healthy Ways to Add Flavor
There are many healthy ways to add flavor to your cooking without spiking a hot flash over it or adding weight to your middle. Heavy spices can bring on hot flashes, and bad fats can add to weight gain and poor health. A few easy and tasty changes can make a difference. You don’t have to do everything, just follow a few of the recommendations that suit you and your taste buds: • Nonfat yogurt instead of sour cream or mayonnaise • Fresh herbs are much tastier than the dried versions • Minced garlic • Minced onion • Flavored vinegars • Orange juice • Tomato juice • Honey • Black pepper • Lemon juice • Mustard • Light tahini • Light soy sauces
Helpful Tip: Strategically choose when to eat garlic If you’re having a particularly bad hormonal day, add lots of garlic to your cooking and do not serve it to your loved ones. The smell emanating from your skin and mouth will keep your loved ones at a safe distance without you having to say (or scream) a single word. Once the hormonal fluctuation and garlic have worn off you may continue normally with your relationships. Another tip which is a little more friendly: Be sure to avoid any hot spices which you are wishing to avoid a hot flash. For some people, hot foods and hot spices can be a trigger. Also, please be careful when buying honey. There are some cheaper makes of honey that are not really honey at all, but are actually corn syrup! Yikes! This is another example of why it is important to read your labels. MSG is often in soy sauce. Find one without the msg. When buying yoghurt be sure you aren't buying the ones with a lot of added sugar or worse-added artificial sugars! There is a lot of scientfic documentation stating why artificial sugars are bad for you. Just google it and you will find out for yourself. Try to eat as clean as possible. This means eating food in its whole form as natural as possible.
