Female Menopause Books
Kathy Smith
Here is the first in the series of female menopause books: Book Review #1: Kathy Smith’s Moving Through Menopause: The Complete Program for Exercise, Nutrition, and Total Fitness.
When I first started to research menopause for myself and for this site, I was thrilled to come across this book written by my personal fitness coach (okay, I haven’t even met her, but I use her Personal Trainer Total Body Workout DVD).
I love her DVD because you can choose from the 3 complete workouts on it including cardio fat burning, muscle conditioning, and stretching and relaxation. Many DVD’s only cover one aspect of what your body needs to stay at its optimum, but she has included them all! And you can choose to mix and match the workouts depending on how much time and energy you have that day.
Her book on menopause includes all aspects of the menopause, just like her DVD covers all aspects of fitness. She talks about menopause as a time of transition and reflection and preparation for the next half of your life. And while her focus is on fitness and diet and relaxation, she also incorporates the wisdom that some women will still need HRT despite their best efforts.
This book mainly focuses on detailed exercise routines and the benefits of good nutrition and lifestyle on your menopausal symptoms. If you are looking for more in depth medical information on menopause, you may want to read Dr. Christiane Northrup’s book The Wisdom of Menopause: Creating Physical and Emotional Healing during the Change. That will be my book review #2.
The Canadian Menopause Society states that lifestyle, fitness and diet will have a profound effect on how well you manage through the transition.
Kathy Smith has consulted numerous experts in the field, and her advice is sound. I trust all of her advice and therefore I highly recommend this book (and her DVD’s) if you want to have a fabulous menopause and beyond.
This is the first Book Review on female menopause books in a series.
