Diet Myths That Keep Us Fat
Book Review #3 Diet Myths That Keep Us Fat: and the 101 truths that will save your waistline-and maybe even your life by Dr. Nancy L. Snyderman. M.D. In this book Dr. Snyderman discusses the 10 most common myths that are not only preventing us from losing weight, but they are also causing us to regain the weight we lost and/or they are confusing us to the point of inertia. You may be wondering what this book has to do with menopause and why it’s on my list of best books for menopause.
The book covers lots of great information on how to properly lose weight and keep it off. It tells you which information will not only be counterproductive to losing weight, but may in fact, make you gain weight, despite your motivation, willpower and effort. Dr. Snyderman discusses why your weight gain is not necessarily your fault. She puts some of the onus of the problem on the misinformation you’ve been indoctrinated with. Weight loss is not always about lack of motivation, sometimes it’s simply about lack of quality information. She blasts a hole through several myths that are being sold to you as a bag of expensive, useless goods. She discusses the good carbs and the bad, good fats and bad fats, why diet drugs are harmful, why you need to add exercise to your diet plan or your efforts to lose weight will definitely fail. She also talks about why supplements will not make you thin and healthy. Save your money on all these useless products- but buy her book (or borrow it from the library like I did) and read it.
