Causes of Perimenopausal Symptoms

Effectively Managing the Causes of Perimenopausal Symptoms: Part 1 written for Oromo News on April 24, 2010. This article discusses the causes of perimenopausal symptoms and the biological changes that occur at perimenopause, as well as the social and emotional changes that occur at this time.

Many factors come into play at midlife which may be causing your perimenopausal symptoms adding stress to an already stressful time. Your children might be leaving the nest, and this can cause anxiety, depression and loneliness.

Also, women in midlife may experience financial issues, questions as to the quality of her retirement, and/or aging parents who may require her care and attention, or even the death of her parents. In addition, there are the issues of aging in general.

All of these social and emotional factors contribute to the extent of one’s perimenopausal symptoms.

In other articles on this site I mention that your hormones do not create your feelings, they only heighten the feelings you already have. That’s why it may be ineffective if you just simply attempt to treat the menopausal symptoms directly with a tincture or a pill. Sometimes you will have to look at where those emotional issues are originating from.

Just as your hormone levels are at their highest, the emotional demands of parenting, caring for your elderly parents and your own midlife issues may be at their peak. Please be careful when looking at the root cause of your symptoms. There may be more than one that is bothering you. It takes a lot of wisdom to be able to see what it is that is really causing your pain. And then again, it takes wisdom to be able to deal with it all.

Counseling may help, and/or talking with good friends, and /or journaling your thoughts and possible solutions.
