Belly Fat can be Beneficial
The fabulous news: Belly fat can be beneficial! Who would have thought it? This article by Linda Stafford in the February 12, 2010 Financial Media online magazine discusses Virginia Hopkins opinion on the midlife spread. Virgina Hopkins said, “for a menopausal woman, a little bit of abdominal fat is natural, healthy and put there for a purpose, which is to make estrogen.” She's not talking about the flabby, huge extra tire around the waist that is caused by unhealthy carbohydrates, high insulin, stress, lack of exercise, not putting oneself and one's health first, or bloating. She's talking about the normal added layer of fat that naturally comes with middle age and menopause. This is very difficult to get rid of, even with diet and exercise because it has a natural and healthy purpose: to make estrogen." Another very important fact that is not mentioned in this article is that if you weigh less than 127 lbs you are a greater candidate for osteoporosis. So that elusive size "0" that everyone talks about is not necessarily so attractive after all! This is good news for most of us who are fighting the battle of the bulge. It only makes sense that if we are all struggling with the same thing, nature must have a reason for doing this.Virignia Hopkins goes on to say, “It’s the thin menopausal woman with a flat belly who is most likely to have hot flashes, wrinkles, brain fog, vaginal dryness and thinning bones.” Suddenly it doesn’t seem so sexy to be thin, does it?
