The Benefits of Strawberries
Strawberries are lovely and beautiful fruit that brings back childhood memories of picking fresh berries in strawberry patches with my mother. We’d pick bushels full (and eat fresh sun-kissed fruit directly from the plant) to make jam, sauces and freeze them for the rest of the year.
At the time I didn’t know how important these little delectable berries were for my skin and general health. Strawberries are powerful little immune system boosters and they contain chemicals that offer cancer protection. They are on Dr. Oz's list of the top five foods to eat to prevent cancer.
• One cup has more than the daily value of Vitamin C.
• They boost production of collagen fibers .
• They reduce your risk of cancer by inhibiting the development of malignant cancer cells.
• This antioxidant fruit protects the elastic fibers in your skin to prevent it from sagging.
Health Tip
Once washed, strawberries will spoil quickly-only wash immediately before serving. Most of the little bugs are just below the stem, be sure to remove them before washing.
Choose strawberries that look plump and glossy. Smaller strawberries tend to be healthier and have more flavor.
Bring strawberries to room temperature before serving for maximum flavor.
