BPA Dental: Toxic Teeth for the Menopausal Woman
BPA Dental: Toxic Teeth for the Menopausal Woman. This is an article written for the Huffington Post by Annie B. Bond on March 3, 2010.
Some plasticizers in dental bonding can be made of the synthetic estrogen bisphenol. This can lead to symptoms of chronic PMS, or it can be confused with the symptoms women normally experience around menopause. BPA has also been linked to Breast cancer, heart disease, and reproductive and sexual problems. Synthetic estrogens are endocrine disruptors which causes the body's normal hormonal process to malfunction.
A quote from the article: After having dental bonding on her three front teeth, Sally felt as if she was in chronic PMS. This symptom would have been easily dismissed as such, but she was in post-menopause. Aware that the plasticizer in dental bonding can be made of the synthetic estrogen bisphenol A (BPA), she called her dentist to investigate the material used, and sure enough BPA was a main ingredient.
Conclusion
There has been a lot of press lately on the toxicity of BPA in our plastics, especially in our baby bottles, drinking glasses, and our storage containers.
Women in menopause are more prone to the BPA-associated health risks of inflammation and oxidative stress than either men or women who are still menstruating.
If you are wearing a night guard to prevent you from grinding your teeth, be sure to ask your doctor if it is BPA-free. You wouldn't want BPA toxins leaching into your mouth all night long.
