Apple and Berry Crisp

Apple and Berry Crisp
This is a menopausal dessert galore. And I mean that because not only does it taste good, it has the ingredients necessary to keep your menopausal symptoms in check.
It has the berries to keep your mind sharp, the apples to keep your colon functioning smoothly and the flaxseed and sesame seeds to keep your other symptoms of menopause in check.
Add the yogurt for part of your daily dose of calcium needed to ward off osteoporosis.
Ingredients • 6 cups sliced, peeled apples • 1 cup blackberries or berries of choice • 1/3 cup brown sugar • 2 tbsp whole wheat flour or flour of choice
Topping • 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats • ¼ cup brown sugar • 1 tbsp flax seed • 1 tbsp sesame seeds • ¼ cup real butter
In a bowl combine apples, berries, sugar and flour. Mix well. Spread mixture in an 8-cup glass or clay baking dish. For the topping, combine the rolled oats, sugar, flax seed and sesame seeds. With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in the butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the fruit mixture. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 55 minutes. Serve warm or cold. If desired, you may add any flavor of yogurt as a topping. On a cold winter day you can curl up in front of the fire with a blanket and a book and enjoy this scrumptuous dessert. Part of navigating successfully through menopause is to savor the moment, carpe diem, enjoy the day, live in the now-whatever expression you wish to use, just go for it.
